Welcome to the official website for the Squire Munro Project — my attempt to compile a list of Squire Munro's descendants for eventual publication in a book.
About Squire Munro
Squire Munro (1757/8-1835) was born in Rehoboth, Bristol County, Massachusetts, the son of Nathan Munro and Hannah Allen. He moved to Cheshire, Berkshire County, Massachusetts in 1779 and then moved to Elbridge, Onondaga County, New York in 1799. He was a Revolutionary War soldier and a very prominent citizen in Onondaga County.
While there are many different spellings of his name including "Manro" which appears on his gravestone and seems to be what he used when signing his name, I am calling him "Munro" during the course of this project. My book will discuss the various spellings.
About The Project
Starting where others have left off, I am attempting to create the first comprehensive book about the life, ancestry, and descendants of Squire Munro. I hope to bring as many family lines as possible from Squire right up to the present. If you can trace your ancestry to Squire Munro or any of his descendants - or if you know someone who can - please contact me and consider contributing data to this project.
On March 1, 2006, when I launched this web site, I had a list of about 500 descendants of Squire Munro from various sources. Since then I have searched and extracted names from countless books and genealogies. I have also visited cemeteries and been in touch with and integrated data provided by dozens of distant cousins. But my work is far from done. There are hundreds of dead ends - descendants for whom I have no additional lineage. I am continuing my research into the lives of Squire, his sons and his grandsons.
