The Squire Munro Project Newsletter
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issue #1 Summer 2006
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to the first newsletter for The Squire Munro Project. As you probably already know, I have undertaken the task of compiling a list of descendants of Squire Munro. I thought it would be a good idea to start a newsletter to keep you informed about my progress and circulate news and announcements to the extended family.
First, I want to thank everyone who has generously contributed material to the project. Your contributions over the last five months have almost tripled the number of individuals on my list, now almost 1400 descendants. In addition, I have been in contact with over three dozen relatives, located countless new pieces of information, documents and photos which have greatly increased my collection of family memorabilia. This will give me more material to use for my book on the life, ancestry and descendants of Squire Munro.
Project Announcements
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My project was mentioned recently in the New England Ancestors magazine and the Clan Munro USA newsletter! News is spreading... Please feel free to help spread the news of my project by forwarding this email to other members of your family.
Research Trips
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This spring I visited the Syracuse area. During my trip I visited Elbridge, Camillus, Syracuse and a few other more remote sites. I returned with a stack of papers photocopied from the Elbridge Library and from the Onondaga Historical Society and countless photographs of cemeteries and homes. I also received a large number of names and dates from the Hill branch of the family.
My next trip will be to Massachusetts. I will visit Berkshire county (were Squire & family lived from 1779-1799) and then will visit Rehoboth, Mass were Squire was born. There I will find and photograph Nathan Munro's (Squire's father's) grave site - the oldest grave site I have located so far.
Request for Names
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My ultimate goal is to include the names, dates and locations of every descendant of Squire Munro that I can learn about - including those living today. Most of you have already sent me dates for your branch. If you have already provided me with information, thank you! If you have not yet done so, feel free to send data at anytime. If you are unsure of the status of data or are interested in reviewing data for your branch please contact me. I will send you the information I have along with a list of questions.
Remember, your contribution will not only help to improve the quality of this genealogical project, it will also insure that your family's connection to this line is well documented for future generations of genealogists.
Request for Artifacts
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In addition to names, dates and locations, I am also trying to locate any interesting artifacts such as those listed below. I will make arrangements to get photocopies, scans, etc depending on your location and your capabilities. I am mainly interested in items pertaining to the first three generations (Squire's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren) although I would not mind hearing about items from any generation, especially from any prominent ancestors.
* Photographs of people, land, buildings or artifacts
* Letters
* Documents
If you have any items that may be of interest, please let me know.
Well, that's all for now. For more frequent updates and additional information, visit my project site at:
